Yummilicious Mochi from Taiwan...
I love mochi ever since I was child, because it’s soft, a little gooey, but not too sweet! Bought these 2 boxes of frozen mochi from ichef via gmarket last week since its reviews are not bad. There are some promotions going on. if you are a mochi lover like myself, i recommend you get yourself a box or 2 coz they are really yummy :p
Red Bean Mochi
Bought this mochi because of its unique flavoring - dusted with brown sugar.
The mochi have a nice maple smell and are coated with brown sugar powder rather than the standard sugared cornstarch dust. The red bean is thickly wrapped in a gelatinous marshmallow-liked glutinous rice layer. It’s a little lighter than i had expected and is very chewy. Plus point for the mochi is its sweetness - sweet but not overwhelmingly so. I think i can finish the whole packet at one go :) Overall the mochi is really good. My only complaint about it is that I did not like the brown sugar powder dust sprinkled on the mochi. Firstly, it spoils the overall taste of the mochi by a little. Secondly, the powder keeps falling, unlike the standard sugared cornstarch dust. It gets very messy and you see clumps of brown sugar powder everywhere.
Red Bean with Green Tea Mochi
A total of 6 pieces in each box. Unlike the red bean mochi, this green tea mochi is in a circular shape and is smaller in size.
I loved this mochi. The glutinous rice molds of each piece is soft & chewy, as they should be. The green tea powder sprinkled on each piece of mochi brought out a pleasant green tea flavor, not too strong, but not subtle either. As I opened up the packet, the smell of green tea immediately filled my nostrils. The whipped cream and red bean paste filling made the mochi beautifully sweet, yet not too overpowering. Definitely one of the best pre-made packed mochi i have eaten so far <3<3<3
